Established on Italy’s North East coast in 1911, the lion-branded Benelli Motorcycles predates Moto Guzzi’s company by a decade and holds the title of Italy’s oldest existing motorcycle brand. after a rather half-hearted reboot in the early noughties the last 6 months has seen the company, along with new Chinese corporate parents Qianjiang Motorcycle Group Co., concept and release a bunch of new metal.
In 2018 Benelli was opened in Indonesia and they started to launch their line up in Bali. According to our point view they have one of most favorite to watch is their new Benelli ‘Leoncino’ ( or ‘Lion cub’) 250 CC and we have been doing with that. Ask one of our customer, he gave the new bike and brief us to build like a flattrack style. Meet an insane small lion. It’s just like the Lion King, only more evil.
Really….Benelli Leoncino 250 style is a fusion of sorts. This bike has touches of the scrambler style, but we also took some inspiration from adventure bikes that can go on and off-road, and that have a more aggressive look to them. When we’ve got a brief from our customer, he only said, “Please make this model look special with the Studio Motor style”.Up-and-coming builders take notice. If you find yourself working on new bikes direct from the owner with single sentence briefs, you’re definitely doing something very right.
Tools ready, we started by modifying the Benelli factory’s subframe to a new, lower position and then changing all body parts with a something new that we’ve made. To replace the original bodywork we made a new tank, tail, side cover and front fender out of 1.2 mm galvanized plate. It’s a unique shape was designed to hug the flowing of the main frame perfectly.
Next, the instrument display was moved from above the headlight to the new home on the top of tank, it was made a different look. After the bodywork was done, we Finished in a glossy look, candy red mixed with silver stripe done by our good partner from Komet Studio. Sikkens base and clear coat giving it a “permanent wet look effect” (It’s a must!). The outdated original tires have been replaced with Shinko E805 130/70-17 & 150/70-17 for front and rear. This made the Benelli Leoncino 250 look bigger than stock, and a lot more serious than the factory design.
Completing the last project, a new handlebar and classic grip was selected to provide ‘the enjoyment of riding’. Custom exhaust made from 304 stainless steel was selected to drag up the modern classic theme with a strong sound.
Looking back, the project’s number one challenge is make this bike with a better look than a stock, and maybe this is the first Leoncino 250 custom in Indonesia. But afterwards, we put everything together and we all really liked the bike’s new, aggressive look. So the hardest part of the Benelli build has now become what we like most about this new bike.
