Maybe we left disappointed after Kawasaki released the W800 back in 2011. The switch to EFI (many of us love carburetor!) and the lack of the kick starter took away 2 of our favorite things on the previous model W650 and as a result we quickly lost interest. But whatever it feels distinctly retro too, but in a good way, as the W800 purrs along. The sound is friendly and mellow and the engine pulls well enough not to feel breathless, as the W650 could.  Thankfully though the Studio Motor are much more forgiving than us and saw the real potential of Kawasaki’s latest iteration of their classic parallel twin. And now we can see a small touched with Kawasaki W800 as a Scrambler and call it THE EXPLORER!.


The frame is standard but has been de-tabbed and boasts a tasty solid black scheme.  The forks are standard but have been shortened, fit with progressive springs and blacked out from head stem to toe. The rear rim also happen to be standard, only front rim we changed with TK Japan 18X3.00 inch and it has been wrapped in Metzeler Enduro 120/80-18 & 140/70-18 and hung beneath trimmed down alloy fenders. Completing the project, Rizome handlebar and aftermarket handgrip was selected to provide ‘the enjoyment of riding’. The 7 inch DRL headlight, turn signals and tail light were mounted using custom brackets and hardware. To finish off the bike we also built a custom, line stitched seat that hugs the rear loop of the frame and lowers the rider an inch closer to the road. A candy dark maroon red, blacked out engine and a small section of 2 in 2 exhaust custom and black wrap give the bike it’s tough aesthetic which is balanced out with a well thought out selection of chrome and bare alloy components.
