If you’ve been following the custom scene for the past few years, you should already know about Yamaha’s “Yard Built” program. The program kicked off with the brutal MonkeeFist XJR133 by Wrenchmonkees. Yamaha know very well, in all over the world Yamaha owners have a dream to creating their own motorcycle and Yamaha seek to enable these dreams by asking talented builder to provide inspirational ideas on how to transform modern Yamaha models into ‘Yard Built’ specials. Many builders will not only inspire Yamaha owners with the ideas, but will also make custom parts and all accessories available to help owners turn their dreams into reality. After an incredible eight years since 2012 and have been over 60 pro builds. In the end of 2019 Yamaha Indonesia was launched Yamaha ‘Yard Built Indonesia’ program after they release a new line up Yamaha XSR-155 as their one of ‘Sport Heritage Motorcycle’. This is new light bike with 155 CC fuel injection engine, single cylinder, 4 Valves – VVA.

We started to build a brand new Yamaha XSR155 after Yamaha Motor Indonesia invited us to join their program. Made two design for this project and finally we choose Cafe Racer style, we just wanted something more than the standard offering from this bike. The biggest idea was to built something original on a love of old school look and like a legend said “As a Sport Heritage Motorcycle this bike must have a respect for all legendary bikes from the past”.

We worked with the bike to design a cafe racer mixed retro style with modern engineering. Under the direction of the bike specification we decided to keep an original suspension, but the rest of it’s appearance was open to our interpretation. The upside down front end, rear monoshock and modern alloy swing arm didn’t quite have the retro look suited to a cafe racer, but the rest of the bike showed potential like a modern cafe. The first step was removed all of the factory plastics.

To replace the original bodywork we made a new tank, tail, side cover and half fairing out of 1.2 mm galvanized plate. It’s a unique shape was designed to hug the flowing of the stock delta box frame perfectly. We customized an original XSR155 sub frame to make way for flat frame, custom version we designed and built, scaled with only a single rider in mind. Finished in a glossy look, candy red mixed with gold were done by our good partner from Komet Studio. Sikkens base and clear coat giving it a “permanent wet look effect” (It’s a must!).

The stock handlebar were removed to fit Rizoma Clip On handlebar. To show more retro look impression the stock casting wheels was replaced with a spoke wheels 17X3.00 inch and 17X3.50 inch for front and rear and then treated to a set of Corsa Tire 120/60-17 and 150/60-17. Our team put a hub wheels from Duralium made in our house with the same original dimension. Not finished yet, removed a stock aluminum swing arm and changed with a handmade arm, made from a hollow plate with 2.5 mm for thickness and 5 cm more longer than an original. LED projector headlight and stock indicator was attached at the front. Thanks to our best partner from RockVan Exhaust, they supported a full system exhaust as our collaboration in this project, best design, we love it!. The final touch coming in the form of LED signal light and taillight also MB Tech seat to complete this build.

A proud workshop with a patriotic attitude and ability to carry out the majority of work ourselves, has allowed us to create something different with this bike. With the build finished, there is only one thing left to do, and it is best summed up by us: “Let’s do the ton, XSR155”
