YAMAHA R25 - 1-01

Written by Donny Ariyanto

Building a custom bike can be one hell of a challenge. And we’re not just talking about the skinned knuckles and cold nights with nothing but a greasy lump of metal to keep you warm. No, what we’re really getting at is the more intellectual aspects of a customization. The seemingly simple decisions you have to make about what to do with the bike that will successfully take it from ‘hate’ to ‘great’.  Oh…come on, seems like this bike that we’ve been featured on our website. Time to meet out rather elegant solution to the challenge; a wanna-be sporty Yamaha R25 that now couldn’t be better suited to its surrounds. And please welcome to Indonesia and the world of custom motorcycle scene. We featured THE RUMBLER, built from 2015 Yamaha R25.

We started to discuss with our customer about his need with this bike, and finally we settled on a scrambler build. First worked is removing all the plastic. The bike’s factory frame was pretty much the exact opposite of what we needed. It would have been easier to just use the engine and build our own frame – so that’s exactly what we did. With the basic customized, we swapped out the original rear monoshock and used 360 mm YSS Z-Series double shock, and then we mounted a set of 53-42 mm upside down forks that will really improve the handling. And to go along with this, we replaced the very average-looking original wheels with some TK Japan Rims in 18×3.00 and 18×3.50 inch and wrapped with Metzeler Karoo 3 tires 120/80-18 at the front and 150/70-18 for the rear. To update the bike’s ‘not hitting things’ performance, we mounted some Brembo twin caliper, twin piston stoppers at the pointy end and a single disc Nissin caliper at the rear. Let’s started with bodywork, we made up a gas tank, some side covers and a tiny front and rear fender from 1.2 mm galvanized plate. And as always, we had Komet Studio as our partner do their thing. We choose a metallic dark brown from the Sikkens catalogue and then decorated the results with a clean, understated silver line. With the bike almost completed, We choose Fatbar handlebar to make sure that the bike’s new owner got that comfortable riding position his old R25 wasn’t able to provide. Lastly, a quality 5 inch aftermarket headlight was wired to the front and a custom-made 2 into 2 exhaust was selected to add a little bark to the new bike’s modern classic bite.

Maybe we are not sure about you, but we’ve been scratching our heads trying to think of a more impressive recent metamorphosis for this bike. So with our pride we can said, welcome THE RUMBLER!
